Pine State Learning (PSL) was born out of a desire to make quality, effective reading instruction for students from diverse economic statuses. PSL believes that quality learning services should not only be available to those who can afford tens of thousands of dollars in education; we believe that every student should have that opportunity, and that every student can learn.
Lisa Murphy, the owner of PSL, has been involved with reading instruction for almost 20 years. With a degree in philosophy, and an inclination to help others, Lisa began teaching reading in Boston in 2003. She then designed an RTI program for a title one school on Hawaii island. She then completed her work for a teaching certificate in Special Education, and finally her M.S. Ed. in Curriculum Design.
Lisa created and managed the Intensive Reading Program at the Aucocisco School in Cape Elizabeth, Maine from 2012-2020, designing instruction for students throughout southern Maine. After teaching hundreds of students to read, using structured interventions in literacy, she realized that there are many more students in Maine for whom this type of instruction is inaccessible. She set out to find a way to create excellent literacy services at affordable prices, and Pine State Learning was born.
